The Drawn and Quarterly (Montreal, QC)
A couple of months ago I had the privilege to spend some time in one of my favorite cities, Montreal. Although we were up for an anniversary trip, Josh surprised me with a visit to a bookstore called Drawn and Quarterly, located in the Mile End neighborhood. The bookstore fits in perfectly in the trendy, vibrant area amid the cool walk ups, fashionable young families, and coffee shops galore.
The atmosphere of the shop was immensely welcoming and I admired the fact that there were spaces expressly designed to sit and read and to play.
I was inspired by the diversity of the books they had in stock and had no trouble finding titles to both admire and envy.
It was an island of intimate calm in the middle of a beautiful and bustling urban jungle.
Although services like Amazon make our lives easier and allow us to purchase things more easily than ever before, there is still something oh so special about taking time to stroll and flip through the offerings in a traditional bookstore. I can’t wait to go back.
And, for the curious, the pictures books are:
All the Ways to Be Smart (Bel + Colpoys)
Nimesh the Adventurer (Singh + Amini)
Birdsong (Flett)
Look, It’s Raining (Pierloot + Dek)
Our Rainbow (Little Bee)
Power to the Princess and High-Five to the Hero (Murrow + Bereciartu)
