“When you eat them, they turn into oranges.”

The Scene.

AR, BG, BK, HE, and I are all sitting down for lunch. AR has a small clementine and begins to peel it. As he peels it, BG and he begin talking about the fruit. BG calling it an orange, and AR calling it a cutie.

The Conversation.

AR: This is a cutie.

BG Pauses, squints his eyes and speaks slowly.*

BG: AR, are you from a different country?

AR: I’m from New Orleans.

BG: My family calls them oranges because they are orange and they are very sweet.

AR: It looks like an orange but it’s actually not. It tastes like a cutie.

BG: I don’t know what a cutie tastes like.

AR: They taste--they taste…

BG: Like an orange?

AR: When you eat them, they turn into oranges.
