Places We Play.

“Places We Play” is a project seeking to bring together children’s voices, perspectives, and visions of play and their play spaces. The initial project was supported by a mini grant from Defending the Early Years, and is part of ongoing effort to bring together images of play spaces near and far. Many thanks to the photographers: Emily, Yee, Wole, Luke, Marta, and Tymon (a small sampling of whose work is featured on this page).

PWP is grounded in the principles of participatory and draws on thinking articulated in the Mosaic Approach (Clark, 2018) and Hundred Languages of Children (Edwards et al., 2014), as well as others who have pursued work integrating multimodal visual representation and voice-centered work with young children.

In the coming months, I’ll be working to put together a zine exploring these images, the ideas that they have sparked, and the conversations that they have catalyzed.

If you know a child who might be interested in participating in this project, please reach out. My goal is to have at least ten more children participate in this next round of PWP, as we deepen this emerging archive.
